U.S. Urges India and Pakistan not Build Atomic Weapons


The United States (U.S.) asked India and Pakistan to stop the construction of atomic weapons project and its missile program because it feared cause distress. Uncle Sam also urged the two countries play a positive role in the covenant of nuclear non-proliferation. 

"The U.S. is still very concerned with the development of
nuclear weapons, and the weapons transfer system in South Asia," said Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Countryman, as quoted by PTI, Wednesday (05/01/2013).

"Based on our view of the 'world without nuclear weapons," the U.S. has repeatedly urged India and Pakistan to stop the nuclear weapons program and missile development. They have to stop the production of materials that can be used to build weapons, and support the start of negotiations in the Treaty banning fissile material, "he explained.

Countryman was quite disappointed with the attitude of Pakistan who refused to support the negotiation process. But the U.S. reiterated, they will be very welcome confidence-building process between the two nuclear-armed countries in South Asia. Countryman will support India and Pakistan joined the regime of nuclear non-proliferation.

So far, India and Pakistan are quite active in testing their weapons, especially missiles that otherwise capable of carrying nuclear warheads. Although relations between the two countries is now declared stable, one Indian security official stance is still suspicious of Pakistan.

According to the official, did not rule out a nuclear attack Pakistan to India. And India will not hesitate to retaliate with a larger attack.
