Israeli Start Losing Support in the UK


British Foreign Secretary William Hague said Israel continued to lose support in the UK. This is due to the act of building Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories. 


Hague's speech in response to accusations flung former Israeli Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz said that Israel's perception of British society towards more negative, than in other countries.

Through an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Steinitz expressed concern over hostility and incitement arising in the UK. Steinitz questioned the attitude of some media such as non-governmental organizations pushing for hostile to Israel.

Hague, who was in Israel to discuss efforts to reopen peace talks between the Palestinians and Israelis, respond to Steinitz's remarks. Hague also admitted that Israel's popularity in the UK continues to decline.

"Israel has lost some of its supporters in the UK and in other European countries. This happens because the settlement activities, which had long since we denounce.'s What kept some times we impress upon the leaders of Israel," said Hague, as quoted by Sky News.

"We strongly reject the construction of settlements in the occupied territories (Palestine). With Israel we always do the same work in various fields, but we reject the construction of settlements," he said.

According to the Hague if the peace agreement can not be reached between the Palestinians and Israel, the Jewish state must still struggle to establish a Jewish and democratic state.

"The prospect of a two state solution could not be kept alive at the time the situation began to change," said Hague, who was in Ramallah, as quoted by AFP.

"Two-state solution can not last long, no extra time (for the success of this case)," he said.

During the visit, Hague also voiced his support to Foreign Menteir United States (U.S.) John Kerry who is willing to be a mediator between Israel and the Palestinians. Hague said Britain had asked the U.S. to do my best to solve the problem.

Middle East peace issues are also a topic of discussion Hague with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Hague reiterated that the issue was a top priority for the Kingdom of England.

In the same occasion Hague also argued, the prospect of a two state solution to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian problem is almost gone. But the problem remains the Israeli-Palestinian peace should be a priority.
