Obama Urges Myanmar Stop the Violence Top Muslim

President of the United States (U.S.) President Barack Obama urged Myanmar Thein Sein to halt ethnic violence against Muslims in Myanmar. Obama's insistence delivered by Obama when receiving Thein Sein at the White House Monday, May 20 when the U.S..


Thein Sein's visit to the U.S. is the first presidential visit Myanmar in 47 years. On that occasion Obama praised the political and economic reforms undertaken by the Government of Thein Sein.

Obama pressed his concern over the state of violence experienced by the Muslim Rohingya ethnic minority in Myanmar who became. So far, there have been allegations that the Myanmar authorities are involved in violent acts.

"I share the President (Thein) Sein, on communal conflict addressed to the Muslim community in Myanmar. Expulsion and acts of violence against them must stop," Obama said, as quoted by Reuters on Tuesday (05/21/2013).

Obama's appeal was then taken by President Thein Sein. Myanmar's former military junta's leaders vowed to solve the problem of ethnic conflict that happened and promised to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Approximately 192 people were killed in the violence that plagued last year's ethnic Rohingya. During the Rohingya citizenship is not recognized by the Government of Myanmar and living in shelters.

Thein Sein also asked the U.S. government to help and understand the ongoing reform efforts at this time. He said there are still many difficulties that occurred during the ongoing reform process.

Obama also stated that Thein Sein has said his intention to release political prisoners, as well as political reforms that could end the isolation of the western world over Myanmar.
