U.S. Urges Myanmar Eliminate Restrictions for Muslim Children

The government plans to restrict Myanmar's ethnic Rohingya Muslims have only two children, denounced the United States (U.S.). Uncle Sam also urged Myanmar's government to cancel the plan. 

"We are concerned by reports of the Government in the Rakhine region of Myanmar, plans to limit ethnic Rohingya Muslims have only two children," said U.S. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki, as quoted by the Associated Press on Saturday (06/01/2013).

"Washington opposed the policy of limiting the birth of a child. We've urged Myanmar to remove policies that area. We encourage the elimination of the policy without further delay," he added.

Previously, the Government of Myanmar said the ban was aimed at reducing violence against Rohingya groups. The government hopes recede hatred against Rohingya groups as limitation of their populations.

A year later, the men would indeed often become victims of violence in Myanmar. Violence occurs due to increased negative sentiment against the Rohingya people.

The majority of citizens in Myanmar considers Rohingyas as illegal migrants from Bangladesh. They are accused of coming to Myanmar to seize land owned by local residents.

Hundreds of Rohingya people have been killed in sectarian violence in the Rakhine region. Approximately 125 thousand people are reported to have left the Rohingya Myanmar for fear of becoming a victim.

This policy also drew criticism of Myanmar's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. He said the policy was discriminatory and violate human rights.

"If they do, the policy was not fair," said Suu Kyi, told AAP on Tuesday (05/27/2013).

"This policy is discriminatory and violate human rights," he added.

Suu Kyi's statement is a rare thing. Suu Kyi has been so reluctant to defend the fate of the Rohingya people are often the victims of violence in Myanmar.
